3. Couples counselling: Couple counseling, also known as couples therapy or marriage counseling, is a form of therapy that aims to help couples resolve conflicts, improve their communication, and strengthen their relationship. It involves a trained therapist or counselor working with both partners in a relationship to identify and address issues that may be causing distress or difficulties in the relationship. The therapist provides guidance, support, and tools to help the couple develop healthier patterns of interaction, enhance their emotional connection, and work through their problems together. The focus of couple counseling can vary depending on the specific needs and goals of the couple, but common areas of focus include improving communication skills, resolving conflicts, rebuilding trust, addressing intimacy issues, and enhancing overall relationship satisfaction.

4. Family counselling: Couple counseling, also known as couples therapy or marriage counseling, is a form of therapy that aims to help couples resolve conflicts, improve their communication, and strengthen their relationship. It involves a trained therapist or counselor working with both partners in a relationship to identify and address issues that may be causing distress or difficulties in the relationship. NEUROFEEDBACK THERAPY - the process
We offer individual training plans for adults and children based on their diagnosis, assessment and current symptoms.

Step 1: Initial consultation to assess current condition and symptoms

Step 2: QEEG brain maps to assess areas of non-optimal brain regulation

Step 3: Formulation of treatment protocol to address underlying causes of condition and set up goals to maximize brain functioning and enhance brain regulation.

Step 4: Combining Neurofeedback with individual therapy approaches that will be relevant for the client including HRV, CBT, Mindfulness, Compassion focused therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Psychotherapy, Play therapy, Narrative therapy, Solution focused therapy, Positive Psychology, Safe and Sound Protocol and Neuro coaching to address the individual needs and goals based on neuroscience.

Step 4: Ongoing assessment and adjustment based on individual training plan and symptom progress reporting

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is the process of normalizing brain wave patterns in specific regions of the brain that influence our emotional state and cognitive performance.

We provide a comprehensive training system that promotes growth and change at the cellular level of the brain.

Neurofeedback is technology’s answer to psycho therapy, cognitive rehabilitation, and poor cerebral functioning.

Neurofeedback has been successfully applied in the treatment of symptoms of ADD/ADHD, showing level 5 effectivicy, equivalent to other interventions for ADHD.

Neurofeedback has been demonstrated in case studies, reports of samples and in my own experience to be effective in treating symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, PTSD, sleep disorders, OCD, Asperger’s, autism spectrum, TBI, seizures etc.  It is your drug free alternative, with very few reported side effects.

What makes us different?

Clinical assessment of current symptoms & history + QEEG Brainmaps + Brain Arousal assessment + Amen Brain Type Assessment = Better Picture of how your brain regulate it's functioning & Options for improving symptoms and maximising cognitive potential and mood.

Better Brain helps clients recover from trauma, sleep problems, ADHD, anxiety and depression and regulating brain states to improve function by the use of Neurofeedback and Cognitive brain training.

Better Brain combines holistic assessment and treatment with Neurofeedback & counselling methods using a Bio-Psycho-Social approach in addressing symptoms.

We can teach you how to change your brain and ultimately change your life.

How does a session look like?

Neurofeedback involves retraining irregular brainwaves into a more normal pattern. The retraining process involves placing sensors on the scalp that give both auditory and visual feedback to you while you look at a computer display with colorful images which are paired with sounds. Controlling the computer display with your brain teaches you to produce the brainwaves that are associated with being attentive and still. As your brain masters the game, the training parameters are made more difficult.

By completing repeated and higher levels of difficulty, you can successfully reshape your brainwaves over time and, with enough practice, you can learn to do this without the computer feedback. This process is similar to what the brain does when a person learns to walk, run or ride a bicycle. Some people may need to learn to increase the speed or size of brainwaves in some parts of the brain. Other individuals need training to decrease the speed of brainwaves in certain areas of the brain.

How long do I need to train for?

Neurofeedback usually requires at least 25, and most commonly 40-50 sessions of about 30 minutes in length for the brain to establish a balanced pattern, with lasting effects. Progress is dependent on the individual's rigididy of the brain, how regular they attend sessions, severity of condition, attitude, age etc.

Neurofeedback can affect arousal, sleep/wake cycles, cognitive processing, sensory processing, inhibition of motor responses, moods and emotions and memory.

With continuing feedback, coaching, and practice, we can usually retrain healthier brainwave patterns in most people. It is a little like exercising or doing physical therapy with the brain, enhancing cognitive flexibility and control.

Thus, whether the problem stems from trauma, stress, ADD/ADHD, a learning disability, a stroke, head injury, deficits following neurosurgery, uncontrolled epilepsy, cognitive dysfunction associated with aging, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or other brain-related conditions, Neurofeedback training offers additional opportunities for rehabilitation through directly retraining the brain. The exciting thing is that even when a problem is biological in nature, we now have another treatment alternative than just medication.

Neurofeedback is also being used increasingly to facilitate peak performance in "normal" individuals and athletes.

Better Brain uses Neuroscience and trauma informed counselling approaches and Neurofeedback, also known as EEG Biofeedback as a therapeutic training tool to improve overall functioning and balancing of the nervous system.

By measuring brain wave activity Neurofeedback provide a tool to people to learn how to retrain and rewire their brains for better performance and have been demonstrated to lessen symptoms of trauma, depression, anxiety, hypervigilance, sleep and inattention.

Evidence Based

Scientific studies indicate that Neurofeedback is able to produce significant improvement in symptoms of epilepsy, ADHD and various of other mental challenges.  There is considerable evidence in clinical practice that neurofeedback can improve a large variety of symptoms in disorders, including panic reactions, depression, sleep disorders, autism, chronic pain and mild traumatic brain injury, symptoms of PTSD and anxiety.

Lasting results has been reported and long term research has shown stabilization of attention skills 5 to 10 year follow up studies, showing superior results to medication.

Are there side effects?

When provided by a qualified professional, NFB training produces few, if any, negative side effects. NFB to be a interesting and engaging experience that feels good.

Why EEG Brain mapping and what does it tell me?

Brain mapping pinpoint what areas of the brain are not processing information in a well regulated manner. This identifies potential root neurophysiological causes of cognitive, mood or behavioural issues. Slow wave activity in the brain is associated with inattention and sluggish processing, whereas fast wave activity is associated with mental activity, heightened alertness and more focused attention. By using Neurofeedback we show the brain a mirror of it's own activity and then by teaching it to suppress slow wave activity and increase faster wave activity, we can increase focus and attention for instance.
