Cognitive Training Brain Games
"By using these programs you will see the child you knew you had, who was hiding somewhere, just waiting to be found" - BrainTrain. Changing the way people think
Cognitive training games builds attention, reasoning, memory, listening skills, working memory, impulse control and processing speed... the basics you need for academic and life success.
Neurofeedback and cognitive training in one easy-to-use powerful system
SmartMind 2 can be used in tandem with the 2000 Captain's Log Brain Games to improve cognitive skills. Research has explored the effectiveness of simultaneously presenting neurofeedback with Captain's Log (Tinius & Tinius, Journal of Neurotherapy, 2000). The treatment group was comprised of individuals diagnosed with ADHD and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI). After only twenty sessions, the treatment group's auditory and visual attention and response control scores on the IVA+Plus were normalized.
Using the SmartMind 2 neurofeedback system and the Captain's Log Brain Games, it is simple to adjust the level of mastery your client is expected to reach, putting success within the grasp of lower level clients or challenging those individuals with higher level skills to stretch their cognitive abilities. Both SmartMind 2 and the Captain's Log Brain Game Modules can be easily customized to fulfill a variety of training protocols. Clients can learn to stay relaxed when faced with challenging cognitive exercises, thus enhancing their self-control.
Few Examples of a games:
Memory Concept Match: “Code Cracker”
Use your working memory to crack the code and open the safe. You must hold multiple pieces of information in your memory to find the right combination.
Trains: Working Memory, Conceptual Reasoning, General Attention, and Visual Perception.
Memory Pattern Recall: “Puzzle Power”
Remember the words you have been shown and then reconstruct the puzzle from what you remember.
Trains: Working Memory, Conceptual Reasoning, General Attention, Visual Perception, and Fine Motor Control.
Attention Skills: Developmental Module for SmartMind 2
Developmental module begins with the very simple exercises used for adults and children with head injuries or developmental disabilities. These programs are carefully crafted to target various types of attention – focused, sustained, selective, and alternating. The tasks become increasingly challenging as you progress. I customize the exercises to build impulse control, processing speed, and reasoning skills.
Visual Motor Skills Module for SmartMind 2
Always a favorite, the seven programs in this module play like video games but without violence or freneticism. The module includes mazes, a driving task, a concentration game, dart throwing, and more. Tasks can be customized for children, teens, or adults. They range from simple to quite difficult, training eye/hand coordination, visual closure, visual scanning, visual tracking, and fine motor control. I can choose to target impulse control, working memory, processing speed, and reasoning skills.
Conceptual/Memory Skills Module for SmartMind 2
These seven programs target invaluable cognitive skills – classification, sequencing, identifying and discriminating information relevant to the task at hand, abstraction, applying general rules and concepts in making specific decisions, using feedback to formulate a decision-making rule, working memory, immediate memory and more. Again, the tasks cover a wide range of abilities, becoming increasingly challenging as they progress. I can customize the exercises to target impulse control, working memory, processing speed, and reasoning skills.
Attention Skills: The Next Generation Module for SmartMind 2
This module presents challenging exercises to develop higher level cognitive skills - auditory attention and discrimination, listening skills, divided attention, visual scanning, short-term memory, and faster mental processing speed.Consisting of three programs, this module can also be set up to develop problem solving/reasoning skills, processing speed, impulse control, and better focus. It provides an excellent way to continue building on the skills developed in Attention Skills: Developmental or to enhance advanced attention and memory skills for peak performance.
Logic Skills Module for SmartMind 2
This newest module of Captain’s Log consists of five engaging programs to help you improve higher level executive functioning - organization, categorization, pattern recognition, conceptual reasoning, quick visual scanning, sequencing, and closure. You must use deductive reasoning to determine rules based on complex relationships between numbers and objects, then use these rules to complete logical patterns and to comprehend how parts fit into a whole. Logic Skills builds on the skills developed in the other Captain’s Log modules. It can also be used to enhance advanced attention and memory skills for peak performance.
Working Memory Skills Module for SmartMind 2
The Working Memory Module makes it fun and interesting for my clients of all ages to improve their cognitive abilities. Use these higher level exercises to create a training plan that will help clients develop the kind of mental agility that is critical for success at work and at school. The ability to hold data in working memory is vital for functioning in the workplace and in school. In addition, it is now known to be an important key for maintaining mental acuity and for improving the performance of people with attention problems.
Auditory Working Memory Skills Module for SmartMind 2
Five new practical Captain's Log programs that focus on working memory and auditory attention. Suitable for children, adolescents, and adults. Why is working memory so important? Working memory is the ability to retain new information and manipulate it at the same time. Research supports that developing working memory can lead to significant improvements in executive functioning. Everyone can improve their thinking skills by increasing their working memory.
Real Life Working Memory Skills Module for SmartMind 2
Five new practical Captain's Log programs that focus on working memory and auditory attention. Suitable for children, adolescents, and adults.Working memory is the ability to retain new information and manipulate it at the same time. Research supports that developing working memory can lead to significant improvements in executive functioning.
